Hi guys,
We've managed to get a good number of people together now, so I thought I'd draft up a list of rules. Well, more guidelines than rules really. I'm not some sort of dictator, but ideally we want everyone to get as much as possible out of the guild.
I've been playing this game for over 4 years now, and I've seen the general community of the game turn from what was quite a friendly, helpful place, into a place where everyone seems to be out for themselves (I'm generalising, but I'm sure most of the veterans will agree with me). So the ethos behind this guild is to try to create a place where everyone is friendly and helpful, without the selfishness and lack of manners.
We've been recruiting at random so far, and that will continue for now, and when you bring a lot of new people together, it will take a while for us to get to know each other. Once I'm happy with the numbers, we can afford to be a bit more selective with who we recruit. In the meantime, if you show yourself to be selfish and/or rude, and I'll be frank with you here, you won't last very long, as I'm sick of playing with those sort of people. Being in a guild should be a 50-50 thing as far as give and take is concerned.
Anyway, onto the rules.
As mentioned above, the main thing above all else is basically, be poilte, and nice to everyone else. It's not too much to ask to say thank you, it doesn't cost anything, and people will be more likely to help you out again. I don't expect us all to be best buddies, but just don't be rude.
There is no obligation for anyone to do anything. That means that I don't care why you join the guild, whether it be to do raids, to have a laugh with likeminded people, or just to help getting into groups. Everyone plays WoW for a different reason, and hopefully we can build something that caters for everyone. If someone doesn't fancy joining an instance, then don't badger them, find someone else. Instances and raids aren't for everyone. Likewise, I don't care how often you play. Some people will be here every day/night, some will play once a week or less. Up to them.
No selling across guild chat please. We have a guild bank, and you can find the rules about that in a separate thread, but basically, items should only be given, not sold. This means that they should be given as a favour, or if you simply don't want/need them.
Looting in groups. If I find out anyone has been doing need rolls in groups without actually needing them, then you'll get a warning/demotion. Do it twice, and you're out. There's no excuse for it, plain and simple. If you do it by accident, fair enough, these things happen, but I'll ask you to sell the item, with the proceeds going into the guild bank for everyone else to use.
On the subject of need rolling, my take on this is as follows. You need an item if it is better than what you have. Even if it is class specific, if it's not an improvement, you don't need it. Mats are fair enough, you can need those in my book. Also, you only need for items in your primary spec. If an item comes up that is an improvement on your secondary spec, that falls under the category 'nice to have' I think. In that situation, I'd suggest asking the rest of the group whether it's ok to need. If someone needs that item for primary spec, you let them have it.
Do not beg in guild chat. That goes for money, items, boosts, or people to join instances/raids. Ask, by all means (apart from money - ask for money and you'll be warned), but do not keep asking if you don't get a response. People aren't always able/willing to help. Help should be seen as a bonus, not something that is expected.
Try to keep the coarse language down please. I'm pretty unshockable when it comes to this kind of thing, but not everyone is, and we are bound to have some younger players playing. Swear by all means, or say a rude joke, I'm not your dad, but don't do it needlessly.
If someone isn't as good as you, do not lose your patience with them, call them 'n00b', or kick them from your group. Try to offer constructive criticism, and help them out if you can. I'm far from perfect a player, and the likelihood is, you're not actually as good as you think, and everyone has to start somewhere.
On the flip side of this, if someone offers you advice, then please take it as just that, as long as it's offered in the right way. Don't throw a tantrum because someone has pointed out a better way of doing things.
If someone makes a mistake, just laugh it off. It happens, and you may well die because of it, but everyone (yes everyone!) does it. If someone keeps making the same mistake, try to help them out. Sadly, a lot of people don't start learning their class until level 70 these days, as they've been boosted through instances up til then, so please be patient.
Sometimes things will happen that you don't like. For example, there will be no room in a raid group for you, or someone will win an item you need, or you won't be able to get help. This is basically a fact of life, so don't act like a spoilt brat, just get on with it. It's a game, and it's not the end of the world.
Finally, we're all here to enjoy ourselves at the end of the day, so in summary, all I really expect of everyone is that they don't stop others enjoying the game. The majority of you won't have a problem with this, but there are bound to be some people that will. If you start acting up, you'll be warned (everyone deserves a second chance, right?), but if you don't learn from your warning, you won't find me very tolerant.
If you do have any issues with anything/anyone however, the best thing to do is to speak to me or another officer rather than calling someone every name under the sun in guild chat.
The above are basically the rules I try to play by, and I'd say it's served me pretty well so far. If anyone has anything to say, or anything to add, then by all means, please do.
Cheers,
Mia
